NCAA Alumnae/i Directory Project

By amccann - 12/18/2009

NCAA wants to keep you informed about a special project we're working on: New College's 50th Anniversary Alumnae/i Directory! Over the next couple of months, Publishing Concepts, Inc. (PCI) will be contacting alums like you via mail, phone, and e-mail to request that you update your information. We understand that you might not want to provide your information to just anyone, so we want you to know that their request for your information is legitimate.

The last alum directory was printed in 2004 by NCAA. The new directory will be a special directory with pages devoted to the College and NCAA’s history, programs, events and photos.

With the 50th Anniversary quickly approaching, we feel that this is a great opportunity for alumnae/i participation.

Below is information about the project and PCI. If you have any questions, feel free to call the Alumnae/i office at 941-487-4900 or write us at ncalum@ncf.edu.

New Music New College has launched an official Facebook Fan page to keep you informed about the acclaimed contemporary music series. Join now and keep up to date with news and events as well as photos and video from performances. To date NMNC has over 200 fans!

From its founding in 1998, New Music New College has become known for presenting cutting-edge contemporary music in innovative ways. New College students have performed in galleries, out of doors, and in other unconventional performing spaces, always with the purpose of offering audiences the most compelling experience of new and experimental music. In addition to regular performances by New College students and faculty, NMNC has presented concerts by some of today's leading contemporary music specialists, artists such as Pamela Z, Kathleen Supové, Scott Kluksdahl, The JACK Quartet, and Corey Dargel.

NMNC also functions as a vital part of the New College of Florida music program, with many projects originating in the classroom, in courses such as Experimental Music in Theory and Practice; Music, Language, Voice: Contemporary Issues and Problems; Contemporary Music; and Electronic Music.

Finally, New Music New College is a laboratory for interdisciplinary research. NMNC projects all have a strong theoretical basis, and draw on current thinking in music, performance theory, social theory, and psychology. Students have presented their research at national conferences and colloquia, and NMNC Director and Professor of Music Stephen Miles has published articles about NMNC projects in such leading journals as "Perspectives of New Music" and "Arts in Action."

New College of Florida Launches YouTube Education Channel

By amccann - 12/8/2009

(December 7, 2009) New College of Florida today announced the launch of an education channel for the College on the widely-popular video sharing website YouTube. The channel, www.youtube.com/NewCollegeofFL, currently includes more than 30 videos, featuring guest and faculty lectures, musical performances, profiles of New College students and coverage of special events held on campus. All are free to the general public.

According to Greg Hite, the College's new media coordinator, New College's new YouTube channel provides a high-tech tool that will enhance recruitment and community outreach efforts while also enabling the College to keep alumni around the country informed about what's happening on campus. "YouTube enables us to make our videos easily available to a wide audience and to showcase the vibrant academic and campus life here at New College," he said.

Five separate playlists have been created on the site: Admissions, Lectures, Student Life, Academics and News. In addition, the College has created playlists for recurring events, performances and lecture series, such as Traces of Our Past, New Topics New College and New Music New College.

New College's Office of Public Affairs manages the content on the YouTube channel, which is free and open to the general public. Subscribers to the site receive the additional benefit of being notified when new videos are posted. Viewers also have the opportunity to post comments and feedback about each video. According to Hite, these features allow viewers to become engaged in the content and provide the College with valuable feedback.

Founded in February 2005, YouTube is the leading online video community that allows people to discover, watch and share originally created videos. YouTube allows people to easily upload and share video clips on www.YouTube.com and across the Internet through websites, blogs and e-mail.
